Fed by the nutrient-rich waters that flow through the Somosomo Strait, Taveuni's Rainbow Reef is home to one of the world's greatest displays of soft coral. In short, scuba diving in Taveuni is world class. Aqua-Trek Taveuni, the Resort's professional dive operation, is Fiji's first PADI Gold Palm Resort facility and Taveuni's first nitrox facility. They offer daily dive excursions to the Rainbow Reef. Garden Island Resort is the closest establishment to the Rainbow Reef. In just 15-20 minutes the swift 30ft. custom dive vessels will whisk you away to famous dive sites such as the Great White Wall, The Ledge, Annie's Bommie, Blue Ribbon Eel Reef, See some of mother nature's best soft coral formationsand more.

Fiji facts

Most stores, food markets and handicraft shops are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. There is no trading on Sunday. Bargaining is quite acceptable among shopkeepers and stallholders, but not in major department stores, grocery stores, hotels or resorts where prices are set.

Restaurants/Nightlife

Fiji's multi-cultural population is mirrored in its cuisine. Restaurants, clubs and hotels throughout Fiji offer a wide range of food Stunning coral formations - have you ever seen anything like this?including traditional Fijian, Indian and Chinese. Fiji's larger towns and cities have cinemas and nightclubs. Special dances are usually held on weekends.

Events

There are eight public holidays in Fiji each year: New Year's Day; Easter Monday; the Queen's Birthday in June; a Bank Holiday and the Prophet Mohammed's Birthday in August; Fiji Independence Day in October; Christmas and Boxing Day in December. There are several festivals held each year in Fiji: The Bula Festival takes place in Nadi in July; The Sugar Festival is held in Lautoka in September; The Hibiscus Festival is Fiji's biggest carnival. Electricity/Water

Throughout Fiji the electrical current is 240 volts/50 cycles. Most hotels have a 110-volt converter for razors and hair dryers. Drinking water in Fiji is treated, however bottled water is available.
